Chevrolet turns 100

For the past century, Logan County has grown up with the Chevrolet brand and some hold a strong loyalty toward the company and its vehicles.

Louis Chevrolet teamed up with General Motors founder William C. “Billy” Durant to introduce a new car in 1911. The name was soon associated with a car that was durable, performed exceptionally well and something the public valued.

Today it remains in the top four automotive brands that are available worldwide.

There are many conflicting stories on how the Chevrolet logo came to be. According to Durant, the bow-tie logo was inspired by a wallpaper design, which was found in a Parisian hotel. He removed a piece of the paper and would later show friends the artwork that he thought would work as the nameplate for his car. Over the years, there have been multiple variations in coloring and details but in 2004 the gold bow-tie surfaced and has remained as the brand identity.

One of the first cars to be introduced by Chevrolet was the Series C Classic Six, which featured electric headlamps and an electric starter. Soon, modern luxuries of safety glass, anti-lock brakes and an electronic control system became the norm.
