Opposition Members of Parliament are planning to force government to issue a statement on the matter of the presidential armoured cars which President Michael Sata claimed were missing.
The Zambian government procured four armoured 4Г—4 LexusВ motor vehicles at K3.6 billion fromGermanyfor presidential escorts.
Two of the vehicles were delivered to State House while the other two are still inGermany, according to police contacts.
But when Sata won the presidency, he ordered the police to investigate where the other two cars were and said the purchase was a waste of money.
A number of former government officials have since been questioned by police while others have been fired. But the investigation have hit a snag as it has been revealed that the vehicles were necessitated by a security breach that could have killed president Jacob Zuma of South Africa and former president Rupiah Banda.
The Watchdog has been briefed that opposition MPs want to raise a motion in parliament to compel the government to explain what has happened to the issue.
