Kentucky's Jones, Poole involved in early-morning car wreck

The incident happened at the corner of Euclid Avenue and High streets in downtown Lexington, a few blocks north of the UK campus.

EMS took Poole and the driver of the SUV, whose identity wasn't released, to the hospital. Police described their injuries as minor. Kentucky coach John Calipari, in a statement, said Jones fled the scene of the accident but then met Poole at the hospital to give his account to police.

"I’m happy to report that nobody in the car was injured," Calipari said in a statement. "First and foremost, their safety was my biggest concern."

No. 2 Kentucky opens the regular season Friday at home against Marist (7 p.m. ET tipoff) and then faces No. 13 Kansas on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden in New York. Calipari said the players did not break any team rules that night but said he now would institute a curfew for the Wildcats players going forward.

"This team did not have a curfew, and our normal procedure is to begin the season without one," Calipari said Friday. "I usually let the actions of my team determine a curfew. However, because of the actions of a select few, this team has showed me an inability to make proper judgment and decisions that they’ve been given the freedom to make. Therefore, going forward, this team will now have a curfew for the rest of the season."
