2000 Mitsubishi eclipse transmission part.?

What is the part on the top of the tranny, where the shift cable goes on. It has a small metal dowel on it to pull or push something to shift. If you need any other info just let me know.

It is called a shift lever, those dowels you are talking about are actually shafts into the transmission.
