where should i place my exhaust cutouts on my car to prevent performance problems and rapid engine cooling?

i have a 1973 Mercury comet with a mild 302 v8 and it has no cats or headers just stock manifolds, the cutouts are 2.5inch pipe and ive heard if you place the cutouts to close to the engine the can warp pistons and rods from the rapid cooling.

You can cause these issues by running an engine without exhaust manifolds at all, but not by running cutouts under the car. As long as the cutouts are in about the same place as they would be if you bolted them to a set of headers, this would actually
