Two killed, one hurt in head-on collision in Prince George's
Two people were killed and a third injured in a grisly head-on collision in the Upper Marlboro area of Prince George’s County Monday night, authorities said.
The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. on Woodyard Road near Perrywood Road, authorities said. Cpl. Henry Tippett, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said the incident was sparked when a 2009 Kia Spectra traveling north crossed the double-yellow line to try to illegally pass a vehicle headed in the same direction. The Kia collided head-on with a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander traveling south, and a 2011 Ford Fusion also headed south ran into both vehicles, Tippett said.
The driver of the Kia, William Vaughn Smith, 23, of Potomac, and the driver of the Outlander, Gail Cherise Cook, 52, of Upper Marlboro, were pronounced dead on the scene, Tippett said. The driver of the Fusion, a 26-year-old Clinton man, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained in stable condition Tuesday, Tippett said.
