Whats the fastest motor you can put into a 1965 volkswagen beetle?

I'm looking for a high quality motor. Im just curious what the maximum output and torque can be? Anything that will fit in a 1965 bug, not just the vw bug motors, but specilized or porsche.
I'm also looking at a price..of how much one would cost
It's only a matter of how much you are willing to spend!
A lot of guys will swap in a 2 liter 914 Porshe engine/transaxle (you can't use you old transaxle). This is a relatively easy way to get 90 hp that's reliable and gets good mileage,
