Chevrolet showed off a stable of Sonic concept cars at the 2011 SEMA show , many of which were geared toward the female driver.
"We understand that market, and that liking performance and personalization is not just a guy thing," said Dave Ross, GM design manager for specialty vehicles and accessories.
The LDRSHIP Designs team presented concepts by both creator Nicholas Ashby and his wife, said Ross.
"She really responded to the Sonic, and we thought hers was a cool statement," Ross said of the custom copper airbrushed Sonic with leopard-print accents. The car has 18-inch alloy wheels, leather accents and an airbrushed dash and door panels. The car appeals to "tuner girls," General Motors said.
DSO Eyewear's concept was stylish and luxurious, with pearl white custom paint, 19-inch wheels in matte black, a custom suede headliner and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
"This is a more upscale, Euro look that appeals to young women. It's a fun little car that's dressed up really nicely," said Ross. "I think the whole Sonic lineup is appealing to young women."
