We really need to replace this, but need you to tell me what has to be removed. Does the exhaust manifold have to be removed? Details please.
no manifold pipe stays on....romove thottle housing and reach down in with a wrench...the lower bolt hole is slotted but the bolt still has to come out....make sure engine is cold so you dont burn your hands....while you are there check for coolant leaks

Turbo boost: Chris Twiggs' STI packs a punch
30.11.11
Ever since he got his first car -- a supercharged Pontiac Grand Prix -- when he was a teenager, Chris Twiggs has been on a constant search for his dream car, owning different makes and models including a heavily modified Dodge SRT4.
Then Subaru unveiled the Impreza WRX STI in 2004.
"It's been my dream car ever since it came out," says Twiggs, who is a mechanic in the Air Force.
After buying a used 2005 STI from a local owner in 2010, 24-year-old Twiggs spent time and money on customizing the car into a one-of-a-kind beauty.
"I bought the car for about ($19,000) and I've spend more than ($10,000) just on modification," he says.
The long list of modifications includes installing 850cc DeatschWerks Injectors, a DC Sports Header, a Cobb Short Ram intake, a Cobb AccessPORT, a Koyo radiator, Samco Sport radiator hoses, a GrimmSpeed 160 Degree Thermostat, a Walbro 255LPH fuel pump and many other additions -- just in his engine alone.
"I have to say the turbo is one of my favorite features," he says.
